National Grid Donates $100K to Combat Food Insecurity
Partnering with Feeding America for Hunger Action Month
WALTHAM, MA, September 10, 2020 /3BL Media/ – National Grid today announced that the company is taking action to help tackle food insecurities in their communities by partnering with Feeding America this September for Hunger Action Month. National Grid will be donating $100,000, to support food banks across Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many Americans are unemployed, underemployed and facing food insecurities. It is estimated that more than 54 million Americans, including 18 million children, will struggle to find their next meal. The Feeding America donation is a continuation of National Grid’s ongoing effort to support its local communities, adding to more than $2 million of charitable giving since the pandemic began.
“National Grid is committed to helping those that live and work in the communities we serve,” said Badar Khan, President, National Grid US. “One of the ways we can do that is by fighting hunger and food insecurity, alongside our partner, Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. This donation is another important step in how we show up for our friends and neighbors across MA, NY, and RI.”
National Grid is asking its employees to give back and join in the fight against the hunger crisis. The company has encouraged employees to raise additional donations, volunteer at a local food bank or find other ways to alleviate food scarcity this September and beyond. Donations will be made to local food banks that will directly impact the neighborhoods where their employees and customers live and work.
Feeding America reaches 40 million people in need across the country and distributes 4.3 billion meals each year (helping 1 in 7 Americans). An estimated $1.4B in additional resources will be needed over the next 6 months to provide enough food for neighbors struggling with hunger. Those interested and able can make a difference by fundraising for a local food bank or by directly donating to Feeding America .
