National Grid Foundation Helps “Keep the Heat On”
On a blustery cold 25-degree day when the need for heat couldn’t be any more apparent, the National Grid Foundation presented a $100,000 donation to the “Keep the Heat On” heating assistance program.
Sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence since 2005, the program helps families and individuals pay their heating bills when all other forms of public and private assistance have been exhausted. To date, the fund has helped more than 9,500 Rhode Islanders stay warm during the cold winter months through more than $2 million in donations.
“We encourage people to think about the struggles some families may be facing,” said Bob Keller, President of the National Grid Foundation, who presented the donation to Bishop Thomas J. Tobin at a ceremony at the Diocese on January 5. “Even a small donation makes a difference. For $10, someone can keep a family warm for a day,” Keller added.

This is the third major gift that the National Grid Foundation has made to the “Keep the Heat On” program. Since its inception in 1998, the Foundation has provided more than $18 million in grants to hundreds of organizations.
