National Grid Honored with ENERGY STAR Award
The EPA recognized National Grid for excellence in promoting energy efficiency products
April 7, 2015 - WALTHAM, MA /3BL Media/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized National Grid with a 2015 ENERGY STAR® Award for Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion.
An ENERGY STAR partner for many years, National Grid is being honored for its work to educate consumers about the importance of energy efficiency and increase awareness of ENERGY STAR programs and products.
National Grid’s accomplishments will be recognized in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 2015.
“National Grid is honored to receive this award highlighting our commitment to energy efficiency,” said Ed White, National Grid’s vice president of Customer Strategy and Environmental. “Through our partnership with ENERGY STAR, we are getting more tools in the hands of consumers to help them save energy, while making a positive impact on the environment.”
The company’s efforts included:
- Rhode Islanders purchased 32,905 ENERGY STAR certified light emitting diode bulbs (LEDs) and 9,858 ENERGY STAR certified compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) in 2014 through National Grid’s limited time social shopping initiatives.
- National Grid offers rebates to help offset the cost of energy-saving equipment to qualifying residential customers who purchase high-efficiency furnaces, boilers, central air conditioning systems, and water heaters. Many eligible equipment models are ENERGY STAR certified.
- National Grid radio advertisements educated customers about options for energy efficiency, including rebates on ENERGY STAR certified appliances and high-performance heating and cooling.
- National Grid hosted an ENERGY STAR Change the World Tour event at the National Grid Sustainability Hub in Worcester, MA on October 3, 2014. This 2,200 square-foot facility at 912 Main St. in Worcester houses interactive exhibits and educational materials about energy efficiency and emerging technologies to help customers maximize energy savings. The event in October featured the Smart Energy Solutions program, energy efficiency programs, ENERGY STAR, and a celebration of the Sustainability Hub’s first anniversary. Smart Energy Solutions was designed to help up to 15,000 Worcester customers take a more proactive role in managing their energy use through new technologies, online tools, and pricing options. The new automation and infrastructure-enhancing devices improve electric service reliability and power outage response.
Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than two billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.
“National Grid’s efforts to promote ENERGY STAR products are helping consumers make smarter buying decisions,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. “National Grid is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change.”
ENERGY STAR has 16,000 partners working to protect the environment through greater energy efficiency, including manufacturers, retailers, public schools, hospitals, real estate companies, and home builders.
