National Grid's Mary Ellen Paravalos Named To Board Of New England Women In Energy And Environment
WALTHAM, Mass., November 20, 2015 / 3BL Media/ – Mary Ellen Paravalos, director, Strategy and Performance for National Grid’s federally regulated businesses, has been elected to the board of directors of New England Women in Energy and Environment, or NEWIEE.
Founded in Boston in 2008 by a group of eminently accomplished women in the energy and environment sectors, NEWIEE harnesses the passion, intelligence and leadership experience of New England women to promote and encourage public interest in energy and the environment and to encourage the development of creative solutions to issues in these areas. With members from the public and private sectors, NEWIEE provides a forum for networking, sharing of expertise and information, and mentoring. NEWIEE also aims to foster leadership opportunities for women in the energy and environment sectors through educational programs and outreach geared toward women who are relatively new to these sectors, and by highlighting the achievements and contributions of women in energy and environment in New England.
Welcoming Paravalos, Judy Chang, a founding board member and a Principal of The Brattle Group, states, “We are honored to have Mary Ellen join us on the NEWIEE Board. Mary Ellen is deeply involved in New England’s energy and environmental topics, a prominent leader in the field, and has been instrumental in helping NEWIEE formulate one of our annual signature events, ‘Women Shaping the Agenda in Energy and the Environment.’”
Beth Barton, a partner with Day Pitney LLP and incoming NEWIEE President, added, “On behalf of the Board and all NEWIEE members, we thank Mary Ellen for her willingness to serve and we look forward to working with her even more closely.”
At National Grid, Paravalos focuses on developing and implementing innovative energy solutions, with an emphasis on policy, that meet customer needs today and tomorrow given the changing environmental, economic, and technical landscape. She previously was Corporate Strategy Manager for National Grid in London, and has held roles at National Grid US in energy policy, commercial contracts, regulatory and reliability compliance, and system planning and engineering.
Paravalos has held roles on a number of energy industry committees including for the New England ISO, New York ISO, and the Edison Electric Institute. She chaired the Edison Electric Institute’s Electric Delivery Executive Advisory Committee from 2013-2015 and represented New England’s electric utilities in the US Department of Energy-funded Eastern Interconnection Planning Collaborative (EIPC) study effort.
