National Veteran Small Business Coalition Recognizes Booz Allen for 7th Year

As a company founded by a veteran, Booz Allen has a longstanding commitment to supporting veteran-owned businesses. For the seventh year, The National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC) recognized the firm’s work with its 2019 Champion of Veteran Enterprise Award.

“Booz Allen enjoys working with veteran-owned and service-disabled, veteran-owned businesses, and our efforts and relationships with them are essential to our supply chain,” said Lynn Livengood, manager of Booz Allen’s Small Business Office. “This award recognizes our continued dedication to working with these businesses.”

Powerful partnerships

Booz Allen frequently subcontracts work to veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, exceeding government and NVSBC requirements. These businesses include DarkBlade Systems Corporation, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business whose scientific, engineering, technical, and training services include operational and cyber support for the Department of Defense (DoD) and intelligence communities. Booz Allen and DarkBlade recently received the 2018 Nunn-Perry Award. This award recognizes outstanding Mentor-Protégé teams formed under the auspices of the DoD Mentor-Protégé program, which partners small businesses with large companies.

Committed to veterans in business and beyond

In addition to partnering with veteran-owned small businesses, the firm supports veterans by hiring them, providing best-in-class benefits, working with Veterans Affairs and the DoD to improve veteran care, and partnering with non-profits to strengthen military communities.

These initiatives include Booz Allen’s Cyber University, a flexible cyber certification program with a 90 percent success rate, as well as partnerships with non-profit organizations like FourBlock and Operation Code, and sponsorship of the cyber track of Project Next S.T.E.P. (Service Member Transition Education Program), which was created by the USO of Metropolitan Washington.

Booz Allen recently ranked #10 among for-profit employers in Military Times’ 2019 Best for Vets list.  The ranking is based on culture, recruitment, and policies for veterans, service members, and military families.
