Nature Needs Heroes: Environmental Communicator Summer Rayne
Nature Needs Heroes: Summer Rayne
Brooklyn-based Summer Rayne has a passion for the environment that she intends to spread to everyone around the world. As an environmental communicator, host of her own YouTube channel “Plant One On Me,” and author of How to Make a Plant Love You, Summer Rayne inspires people to get more attuned to nature. To do this, she looks at the cultural elements that affect our everyday lives—fashion, food, and her favorite activity—growing plants.
"People always say they want to get involved, but never do it. You build environmentalism and volunteerism into your life by showing up and by making little changes every day that eventually create a new routine." - Summer Rayne
In addition to her indoor plants, Summer Rayne is an active member of a community garden, helping manage a wildlife food forest, rain garden, and her own vegetable bed. She volunteers regularly there and at a neighboring senior center, helping maintain their chicken coop. She even has a rescue chicken named Kippee, which she picked up at the senior center, who accompanies her on her visits.
