Net Impact Launches 2016 Impact at Work Challenge: Climate Disruptors
A new competition encouraging employees to attack climate change together
OAKLAND, Calif., April 22, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Net Impact announces the 2016 Impact at Work Challenge: Climate Disruptors, a competition that dares employees to inspire change within the walls of their own company. The virtual competition launches on Earth Day (April 22, 2016) and closes on Sept. 9, 2016. It is free to enter and open to all professionals working within any sector (nonprofits, for-profits and government entities), provided the company or organization employs at least 10 people. With support provided in part by the Moxie Foundation, Climate Disruptors is the first in a series of global workplace challenges which Net Impact will organize.
“Net Impact is thrilled to support the next generation of intrapreneurs working to combat climate change,” says Liz Maw, CEO. “We know there are countless employees globally who are looking for the tools to harness their passion to make a difference, and we cannot wait to see the results.”
Teams must consist of three or more co-workers, although multiple teams within one company are allowed. Teammates will identify a need for sustainable change within their company and then they will enact that change together. The focus must be on reducing carbon emissions from the employing company; however various methods will be accepted, such as: partnering with business operations; addressing employee behavior and/or employer policy, or engaging in community activities. Efforts and reductions can also be done across various mediums, from shareholder groups to the supply chain itself.
As part of the final submission process, teams will be asked to: summarize their project in 50 words; outline their quantifiable carbon reduction goals, report their achievements and state the long-term potential of their work; describe how they engaged other stakeholders in the company; discuss what team members learned about driving sustainability forward with their employer; include photos (1-5) or other media to demonstrate what they did.
In support of participating teams, Net Impact will share resources -- from interactive webinars to toolkits. A panel of expert judges will evaluate projects, and points will be awarded based on various criteria, with special emphasis given to teams composed of members that work outside the sustainability and corporate responsibility sector.
New and existing projects may apply but will be judged separately. Winning teams will receive a donation to the environmental nonprofit of their choice.
