NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 11, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Do you have an old picture-tube TV taking up closet space? Are your junk drawers filled with old cell phones and other gadgets? Now’s a great time to recycle!

Habitat for Humanity of New Orleans, Vintage Tech Recyclers and LG Electronics USA have joined forces to offer a free solution for responsible electronics recycling in New Orleans tomorrow. Local residents are encouraged to bring their outdated, unused and older TVs and other electronics to the NOLA Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 2900 Elysian Fields Ave., on Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

By recycling old electronics products, useful materials such as glass, plastic and metal can be reused in the manufacture of other products. Among other benefits, recycling electronics minimizes the amount of hazardous waste in the landfills and the extraction of new raw materials from the earth.

In conjunction with the recycling event, consumers are being urged to “Do 1 Thing ENERGY STAR.” Replacing older TVs and computer monitors with new ENERGY STAR certified models helps consumers save energy and money while addressing climate change. Through the end of October, authorized local LG dealers are offering Instant Rebates of $50 to $700 on LG LCD/LED flat-panel TVs that have been recognized as “ENERGY STAR Most Efficient.”

To assure responsible recycling, the LG Electronics Recycling Program works only with certified recyclers, like Vintage Tech Recyclers, which is an e-Stewards, R2, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certified electronics recycling company. Vintage Tech Recyclers ensures that all electronics are properly handled and recycled and all hard drives are protected using NIST 800-88 compliant software wiping.

At Saturday’s event, residents are encouraged to stay in their vehicles; Vintage Tech Recyclers personnel and volunteers will assist in unloading material. For more information, please call Vintage Tech at 630-305-0922.
