NJ Action Team Captains Raise Funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
BERGENFIELD, NJ—Action Team Captains from Bergenfield High School raised more than $1,000 with their annual “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The three-week-long campaign consisting of pizza and doughnut sales drew big-time support from the school’s faculty and student body.
Three Action Team Captains -- Sarah Hartwig, Zainab Ali and Hala Eshmaway -- also collected additional donations during their community’s weekly farmer’s market.
“We are one step closer to making the world a better place,” Eshmaway said. “The Action Team has given me the opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives.”
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will use the funds to help find a cure for blood cancers and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Blood cancers are among the most fatal diseases affecting children under 15.
“We are saving lives, by the penny,” Hartwig said.
