I am proud to announce that NortonLifeLock has once again been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World and North America indices, one of the world’s leading environmental, social, and governance (ESG) benchmarks.
Started in 1999, the DJSI uses a Corporate Sustainability Assessment to choose the top 10% of the largest 2,500 companies in the S&P Global BMI based on long-term economic, environmental, and social criteria. Companies receive scores and percentile rankings for roughly 20 financially relevant sustainability criteria that includes ESG factors.
This year, NortonLifeLock has earned an ESG score of 50, again placing us in the 95th percentile for the software industry.
“NortonLifeLock brings together our team, expertise, and powerful technology to help build a safe, inclusive, and sustainable future,” said Vincent Pilette, CEO of NortonLifeLock. “We are honored to again be recognized as a sustainability leader and to be listed on the 2021 Dow Jones Sustainability World and North America Indices.”
In this year’s DJSI analysis, NortonLifeLock ranked especially high for the following factors: corporate governance, our codes of business conduct, and our tax strategy, and we continued to score in the 99th percentile for our corporate citizenship and philanthropy efforts.
We are committed to transparently disclosing our ESG commitments and performance. Our 2021 ESG Report highlights many of the accomplishments that lead to our positive ESG rating this year in more detail, including:
-
Philanthropy: As a result of our year-long culture of giving, we provided $1.9M in charitable giving to high-impact nonprofits. Additionally, with a value of over $4 million, NortonLifeLock product donations helped nonprofits, public libraries, and families keep their devices and data secure. These efforts put us in the 99th percentile in 2021.
-
Environmental stewardship: We achieved a score of 100 in the Climate Change Strategy subcategory and plan to release additional elements of our environmental stewardship efforts, including the results of a recent product lifecycle analysis, later this year.
-
Corporate Governance: A milestone for NortonLifeLock in FY21 was reaching gender parity for the independent members of our Board of Directors with the appointment of two female directors. This helped us achieve a score of 100 in the Board Gender Diversity DJSI subcategory.
-
Codes of Conduct: We have a strong commitment to ethics and are proud to have achieved a score of 100 for our Code of Conduct, our Global Supplier Code of Conduct, and additional ethical safeguards including our Global Procurement Policy, Global Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy, and Global Antitrust and Competition Policy.
We are excited to see the other companies named to the DJSI, and to see that the proliferation of businesses prioritizing environmental, social, and governance performance is growing. We hope our work inspires others and we are excited to continue to build on this momentum.
