Occupational Safety and Health Administration Preps for GHS Meeting
In the recent post by Occupational Health and Safety, OSHA Prepping for GHS Meeting, it discusses the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as “acting as a representative of the U.S. Interagency GHS Coordinating Group.” OSHA will be holding a public meeting on Nov. 12 in preparation for the Globally Harmonized Systems (GHS) meeting in Switzerland to:
“Discuss proposals in preparation for the December meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, of the United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals”
The public meeting’s primary focus is to gather information and comments to better develop the U.S. government’s positions at the meeting in December. Many organizations have not started transitioning to the meet the new OSHA Hazard Communication Standard of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)/ Safety Data Sheet (SDS) conversion deadline, and have not made the new SDS readily available to their employees. In order to have a cost efficient SDS implementation program, companies must start complying with the conversion now to meet the deadline.
