OppenheimerFunds Launches New Philanthropy Program: The Right Way
NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2012 /3BL Media/PRNewswire/ -- OppenheimerFunds, Inc. announced it is launching a new philanthropy program: The Right Way to Change Perspectives (The Right Way). The Right Way's mission is to help change peoples' perspectives and encourage them to roll up their sleeves to make a difference.
OppenheimerFunds is partnering with two celebrated, unique organizations that share the company's mission, beliefs and core values: the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) and Cross-Cultural Solutions.
"We are thrilled to partner with MoMath and Cross-Cultural Solutions to help solve real, fundamental issues that are important for our country and our company, and we aspire to bring the two organizations together to bring this new approach to math abroad in the future," said Bill Glavin, CEO, OppenheimerFunds, Inc. "Through active experiences, these organizations tackle some of the most pressing global issues and are committed to changing peoples' perspectives. We hope to provide people with experiences that change the way they see things – whether it's math or social issues around the world – so that they are inspired to influence positive change in their own life or someone else's."
MoMath, which opens its doors to the public in New York City on December 15, 2012, addresses the decline in the number of students who are achieving in math and preparing for careers that rely on mathematics. The museum's dynamic, one-of-a-kind facility provides exhibits and programs that actively engage the public and make math more fun and less intimidating.
MoMath and OppenheimerFunds are teaming together on an exhibit called String Product. A major element of visitor movement through the museum, String Product combines a working staircase with an exhibit on a unique algebraic property of a parabola. The inherent beauty of mathematics is expressed on a monumental scale, with this two-story sculpture of light and metal that links the upper and lower levels of the space. To ensure visitors capture their String Product experience, OppenheimerFunds has set-up an interactive photo station, "Photo-OPP," on the staircase.
MoMath and OppenheimerFunds are also teaming together to send MoMath's traveling exhibition, Math Midway, to Centennial, CO and, Rochester, NY, where OppenheimerFunds has offices.
"We are excited that OppenheimerFunds has signed on as a corporate sponsor to help us launch MoMath to the public and enhance public understanding of mathematics in daily life," said Glen Whitney, Founder and Executive Director, MoMath. "Partnerships with companies like OppenheimerFunds enable MoMath to grow, broaden our reach and ultimately change perceptions of math."
Cross-Cultural Solutions addresses critical global issues by providing meaningful and sustainable volunteer service to communities abroad. Their global volunteer program creates influential cultural exchanges, delivers real change to communities and increases awareness of global issues.
In the inaugural year of their partnership with Cross-Cultural Solutions, OppenheimerFunds plans to send groups of employees throughout 2013 to different countries where Cross-Cultural Solutions has an established presence around the world. Their volunteer projects will focus on improving education for children.
"From the beginning, our partnership with OppenheimerFunds has been exciting because our organizations share many core values," said Steven Rosenthal, Founder and Executive Director, Cross-Cultural Solutions. "OppenheimerFunds' employees will be provided with an unforgettable volunteer experience. They will return to their jobs and communities with a transformed world view and be more engaged in global issues. Our work together is sure to be very impactful."
"At OppenheimerFunds, we believe that giving back should include more than just writing a check," said Glavin. "We believe in taking an active, hands-on approach to all that we do so we can better serve our investors, clients, employees and their families, our communities, and the world at large."
