Bess The Book Bus, Miss Virginia Organization Titleholders, Giving Tree Music Join Local CITGO Marketer at 41st Annual Neptune Festival
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Oct. 23, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Local CITGO Marketer PAPCO Inc. and CITGO Petroleum Corporation were fueling good in support of the Virginia Beach community in September. On Sept. 26, PAPCO, along with special guests CITGO Fueling Good Road Trip hosts Adam and Diego, local Miss Virginia Organization representatives and Bess the Book Bus, welcomed neighbors to the Jr. Market CITGO on Sandbridge Road for a Customer Appreciation Day. Attendees enjoyed discounts at the pump, a live DJ, free books for children, and karaoke and prize giveaways, including CITGO Gift Cards.
“We have been able to forge strong relationships with our neighbors and give back to our loyal customers through our partnership with CITGO. Events like our recent Customer Appreciation Day allow us to give back to the community and celebrate the local spirit,” said PAPCO Inc. Director of Marketing Frank Daniels. “We were also thrilled to support the Neptune Festival for another year, since that is such an important event for this region.”
On Sept. 27, CITGO, PAPCO and the CITGO Fueling Good Road Trip continued the fun at the 41st Annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend along the Virginia Beach oceanfront. CITGO welcomed families and children to play bongo drums with Giving Tree Music, read books with Bess the Book Bus and take photos with Miss Virginia 2014. The festival, a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization with more than 1,000 volunteers, showcased approximately 400 artisans and included 5k and 8k runs, the Grand Parade, Neptune's International Sandsculpting Championship and Neptune’s Final Toast in honor of Hometown Heroes.
“Education and social investment are very important to CITGO and our network of Marketers and Retailers,” added Alan Flagg, assistant vice president of supply and marketing at CITGO. “It’s wonderful to see how much we can give back to the communities who support CITGO by partnering with organizations like Bess the Book Bus, Miss America and the Neptune Festival. It’s our way of helping to fuel a better future.”
At the Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend, Miss Virginia 2014 Courtney Garrett, Miss Peninsula 2014 Amy Bartgis, and Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen 2014 Casey Shepard also signed autographs, handed out books for children and played along with Giving Tree Music.
The CITGO partnership with the Miss America Organization provides a platform to address important issues including education and anti-bullying. Bess the Book Bus donated a total of 900 books to local children at the two events. As part of its nationwide 2014 “Success is in Sight” tour, Bess the Book Bus, sponsored by CITGO, will provide free books to more than 25,000 kids in 35 states.
