PepsiCo Contributes to European Debate on Sustainable policy

October 29, 2012 /3BL Media/ - PepsiCo made a positive contribution to the European debate concerning the development of a European sustainable agriculture policy. Paul Melis, senior manager, Agriculture Development Team - PepsiCo Europe, spoke at the European Food Security Conference held in Brussels and presented PepsiCo's long-standing cooperation with farmers and scientists to increase productivity while protecting the environment.

Europe is currently working to reform its common agriculture policy, and PepsiCo's engagement on the issue comes at a time when policy makers are making decisions that will affect PepsiCo's agriculture commodity supply and farming partners. "The conference was a great opportunity to engage with key European policy makers and stakeholders," said Paul. "We demonstrated how we are working to address the challenge to deliver sustainably produced food to the next billion consumers, a challenge that is faced by the entire agriculture and food sector."

Mark Pettigrew, manager, Agricultural Sustainability - PepsiCo Europe, used the opportunity to demonstrate PepsiCo's measurement technques for CO2 and water use, emphasizing that "working closely with our growers is at the core of PepsiCo's sustainable agriculture strategy and part of our commitment to Performance with Purpose. We share our initiatives to address the challenge of sustainable agriculture, and where we currently stand on this path."
