#ProBonoChat – What’s Next for Pro Bono Service?
October 17, 2014 /3BL Media/ - In celebration of this year’s Pro Bono Week, A Billion + Change and the members of the Pro Bono Collaborative are proud to announce their first-ever Twitter #ProBonoChat on Fri., Oct. 24 at 2:00 PM EDT, to discuss forward-looking trends and topics surrounding pro bono service. This year, A Billion + Change assembled the new Pro Bono Collaborative group comprised of leading pro bono practitioners and intermediaries to share best practices, resources and collaborate on sector-wide activities like this one. Pro Bono Collaborative members include: Ashoka, Bankers without Borders, Catchafire, Civic Consulting USA, Common Impact, CreateAthon, HandsOn Network, NPower, Public Architecture, PYXERA Global, and Taproot Foundation.
This will be an opportunity for companies, employees, nonprofits and all those interested in pro bono service to join a broader discussion of how we can collectively improve pro bono service, how to measure the impact and find out who benefits the most from pro bono. Drawing on the creativity of the collective, companies will also be asked to celebrate their pro bono service through a six-word story.
“We’re excited to step forward into the 21st century and use an online tool like twitter to facilitate a widespread discussion on the importance of pro bono service,” said Georgia Gillette, Lead Catalyst of A Billion + Change. “Our goal is to raise awareness about pro bono service in hopes that companies, nonprofits and individuals alike will harness the power of their time and talents to help their local communities.”
Six-word stories are an innovative way of storytelling inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s famous challenge where he was able to craft a six-word story that could make people cry. A Billion + Change will encourage companies to share their six-word stories on the twitter chat to describe how they felt after doing pro bono service or the impact it created in the community.
Twitter chats are frequently used to gather people together online at a predetermined time to discuss a topic and organize conversation while connecting people at the same time. A Billion + Change wants participants to use this as an opportunity to share how they celebrated Pro Bono Week and what their goals are for their next pro bono program. Click here for more information and to sign up for the Twitter #ProBonoChat on Fri., Oct. 24 at 2:00 PM EDT.
Be sure to join the live Twitter conversation using the hashtag #probonochat!
