The PT Freeport Indonesia community quickly mobilized resources to provide food, water, and critically needed rescue and medical services for those affected by the Sentani flash flood.

When a flash-flood hit Sentani, Indonesia, on March 16, 2019, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) was ready to help.

Within 24 hours, PTFI had mobilized resources to provide food, water, and critically needed rescue and medical services. Within 48 hours, the company had sent five emergency preparedness teams and two medical personnel to Sentani.

PTFI’s humanitarian efforts also included:

  • Collaboration with the Jayapura Regency government to send and distribute ready-to-eat food and mineral water for the relief effort in Sentani.
  • Teams in Papua, Indonesia, collecting clothing, blankets and other household and personal supplies, which were sent directly to Sentani.
  • Local organizations and community groups holding fundraisers, the proceeds of which purchased other necessities for the refugee camps.

PTFI continues to work with the government to ensure assistance reach those in need.
