PT Freeport Indonesia, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Works to Reduce Incidences of Malaria Through a Comprehensive Public Health Program in Papua, Indonesia

December 30, 2014 /3BL Media/ - In its continued efforts to wipe out malaria and prevent the spread of malaria disease by anopheles mosquitoes in the Mimika Regency in Papua, Indonesia, PT Freeport Indonesia, in conjunction with local institutions, recently distributed mosquito nets and sprayed insecticide in the homes of Pauan residents.

Approximately 24,000 mosquito nets have been installed by Malaria Control teams this year in the town of Timika in the Mimika Regency. The teams went from door to door to help residents set up the bed nets they provided to the residents.

In addition to distributing mosquito nets, PT Freeport Indonesia sprayed insecticide on the walls of homes to prevent malaria spreading through the anopheles mosquito. During 2014, approximately 17,000 homes were sprayed in Timika. Additionally, treatment for malaria is provided to those who are suffering from the disease.
