Rebuilding Together and Wells Fargo Join to Address Urgent Housing Challenges Nationwide Through Critical Home Renovation and Repairs
Initiative to focus on no-cost, essential repairs to make homes in more than 45 communities across the country safer, affordable and more accessible
WASHINGTON, June 7, 2022 /3BL Media/ - The Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded $1.3 million in grants to Rebuilding Together, a leading national nonprofit organization with a vision to ensure safe homes and communities for everyone, to provide critical home repairs to nearly 100 homes in 45 communities across the U.S. As part of the Wells Fargo Builds program, neighbors in need will receive essential home repairs at no cost, allowing residents to remain safe and healthy in their homes.
“Having a quality and affordable place to call home is the foundation for wellness, dignity and economic opportunity,” said Eileen Fitzgerald, head of Housing Affordability Philanthropy at Wells Fargo. “Through Wells Fargo Builds and our long-standing collaboration with Rebuilding Together, we’re helping to restore and renovate distressed properties so people and families can remain safely in their homes.”
To kick-off this year’s nationwide effort during National Homeownership Month, approximately 80 volunteers from Wells Fargo, Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, and the community came out to repair eight homes on the 3300 block of Kip Street in North Philadelphia. Rebuilding Together Philadelphia received a $50,000 grant to complete critical internal and external home repairs and enhancements, including installation of new flooring, smoke detectors, and grab bars, as well as building planter boxes and painting.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of having a safe place to call home,” said Caroline Blakely, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. “Through our collaboration with Wells Fargo, we are able to provide critical home repairs to those who need it most, advancing Rebuilding Together’s mission to ensure everyone lives in a safe home and community.”
For Wells Fargo employees, the community project in Philadelphia was the first Signature Day of Caring event in the local market since 2019, as large-scale volunteering was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Though Wells Fargo Builds, employees will volunteer alongside homeowners and contractors to complete critical home repair, renovation, and home construction projects in other communities in need throughout the year.
Since 2010, Wells Fargo has donated more than $17 million to Rebuilding Together and its affiliate network to support rebuilding efforts across the country, including providing essential home repairs, revitalizing communities, and helping veterans, older adults, people with disabilities, families with children, and victims of disaster remain in their homes.
