NEW YORK, NY., October 18, 2012 / 3BL Media/ — Recyclebank®, the company that rewards people for taking everyday green actions with discounts and deals, today announced that it has been named a finalist for a prestigious World Technology Award in the Energy category. As one of eight nominees in the field, Recyclebank joins a roster of approximately 50 organizations and 100 individuals in the annual competition, deemed by the members of the World Technology Network that do the “most innovative work of the greatest likely long-term significance.” The World Technology Awards have been given by the WTN since 2000 as a way to honor the most innovative individuals and organizations in science and technology in 20 categories. Nominees for the 2012 World Technology Awards were selected by the WTN membership through an intensive, global process over a period of many months. This is the second consecutive year that Recyclebank has received this prestigious nomination.

“We are honored to again be recognized by the esteemed World Technology Network for our innovative and proven approach to realizing a world where nothing is wasted,” said Jonathan Hsu, CEO of Recyclebank. “We’re optimistic that by partnering with communities, waste haulers, locally-based businesses and corporate brands, we can together mobilize people to make more small lifestyle changes that when added together create a more sustainable world.”

The WTN is a curated membership community comprised of the world’s most innovative individuals and organizations in science, technology, and related fields. The WTN and its members are focused on exploring what is imminent, possible, and important in and around emerging technologies.

The winners of the World Technology Awards will be announced during a ceremony at the TIME & Life Building on the evening of October 23 at the close of the World Technology Summit, a two-day thought leadership conference presented by the WTN in association with TIME, Fortune, CNN, Science/AAAS, Technology Review and others.

“This year we are more eager than ever to pay tribute to the talent and innovation of our individual and corporate honorees,” said James Clark, founder and chairman of the World Technology Network. “Each year, this event gains momentum and prestige, making it the ultimate global platform to honor visionary contributions in the science and technology arenas, and we look forward to assisting Recyclebank in continuing to help create our collective future and change our world.”

This honor follows recognition earlier this year, as Recyclebank was recognized in Fast Company’s annual ranking of The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies, named to the Sustainia100 at Rio+20, listed as a Global Cleantech 100 Company for the third consecutive year and received a GAwards: Best in Gamification Award in the Best Use of Gamification for Social Good category.
