Reflections from a Former Action Team Captain

My name is Lindsey Hall (on left in photo above) and I was an Action Team Captain at Thornton Academy (Maine) for four years. The Action Team was the very first club I joined at my school and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.

I was first inspired to join from my sister’s previous experiences with the Action Team. I wanted to join, not only because of her, but because I wanted to be able to help others, give my spare time for the better good and make new friends.

As a Team Captain I helped organize and lead events within my school and community. My team volunteered at a children’s winter carnival for our school, Partner’s For World Health and a local senior housing facility, The Paul Hazelton House. Our main project was at The Paul Hazelton House, where we connected with the residents in events such as bingo nights, holiday parties and assisting them in projects of their own.

Being part of this team meant a great deal to me. Not only was I able to help others but I was able to help myself.  I grew as a person.  I was able to meet new people, make friends and take part in new experiences. Through the Action Team, I was not only able to give joy to others, but to experience it myself, as well.

As I continue on to the University of New Hampshire this fall, I plan to continue with volunteering and to take part in my community.

I am so thankful for what the Action Team has done for me. I am especially thankful to the Major League Baseball Players Trust for awarding me a scholarship that will help pay for college. I hope to continue helping others and hope to make the Players Trust proud.

My best piece of advice to students in high school would be to take part in this organization and if there is not an Action Team in your school, start one, because there is no better feeling than being able to help those in need.

It only takes a little bit each day to make a change in this world and with all our groups across the country, we have the ability to make the world a better place.
