May 20, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Singapore's Leading Eco-Developer marks Jubilee Year with Triple Bottom Line Milestones
City Developments Limited (CDL), a Singapore-listed international property and hospitality conglomerate, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013. Located in 25 countries, CDL is aware of the impact property development can have on the environment and society. Based on the firm belief of “Conserving as it Constructs”, it has integrated sustainability into its business since 1995.
Publishing its seventh sustainability report – Sustain – it gives an account of CDL’s financial, environmental and social performance for 2013. Highlights of the report include:
- The world’s first green library for kids and Singapore’s first zero energy green gallery. To celebrate its Jubilee Year, CDL presented to Singapore these community gifts: My Tree House and the CDL Green Gallery @ Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Museum, respectively. These ground-breaking structures cement CDL’s commitments to planting the seeds of eco-consciousness in young minds and to the constant drive to develop green buildings.
- CDL has also blazed the trail in supply chain management for the property sector. Back in 2001, it launched the CDL 5-Star EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) Assessment System to structure a comprehensive audited and appraised approach towards EHS for all its builders. Sustain discusses CDL’s latest stakeholder engagements and presents quantitative data on CDL’s environmental impacts such as energy and water consumption, waste management and carbon emissions.
- Healthy financial growth: strong earnings of S$683 million despite an increasingly challenging Singapore property market.
- Continuity of signature community outreach programmes, including the CDL E-Generation Challenge, designed to influence youths to be eco-change agents; the CDL-Singapore Compact Young CSR Leaders Awards to nurture future CSR champions; and the 5th CDL Singapore Sculpture Award, which has unearthed many talented young artists.
