(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) January 10, 2012 - Intuit has released its first Sustainability Report, which is available for download online at www.intuit.com/sustainability. The report documents the company’s progress since launching a corporate wide program in 2007.
Highlights from the report include:
• Approved plans for two renewable energy projects: thin-film solar and a Bloom Box fuel cell installation.
• Integrated Zimride, a social carpooling network, and reduced nearly 1 million miles in employee commute.
• Diverted 60 percent of landfill waste through increased recycling efforts.
• Prevented the use of 720 million sheets of paper though its products and services - getting closer to its annual goal of 1 billion.
The report is an important step in sharing the company’s efforts and engaging stakeholders in its commitment to the environment.
At Intuit, employee ideas and enthusiasm have fueled numerous innovative green initiatives over the years, such as Freecycle@Work, a free app that enables companies to create their own re-use programs and Waste Watch, a campaign that uses employee crowd sourcing to find sources of waste at all of Intuit’s 50 facilities.
While the report highlights several accomplishments, it also notes areas for improvement and future goals. Specific goals include a 15 percent absolute reduction in Intuit’s carbon footprint by the end of 2012 and achieving 100 percent data collection for all electricity consumption, water usage and waste generation. In addition, the company will continue to use its customer insights and technology expertise to innovate and help make their 50 million customers more sustainable.
