This first report recaps Starwood′s 2012-2013 Global Citizenship initiatives, and outlines Starwood′s continuing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, community involvement, opportunities for associate development, and best practices in corporate governance.

- Social Responsibility. Starwood′s commitment to foster transformative experiences that empower individuals and communities around the world, focusing on: Opening Doors to Opportunity (Education and Workforce Development); Taking Pride in Our Places (Conservation and Cultural Preservation); and Responding to Neighbors in Need (Disaster Relief and Human Rights).
- Sustainability and Conservation. The first major hospitality company to require sustainability compliance and public reporting to the CDP for its entire portfolio of owned, managed, and franchised properties, Starwood highlights progress against its 30/20 by 20 energy- and water-reduction goals and announces a new greenhouse gas emissions reduction target. Beyond energy and water, the report highlights Starwood′s comprehensive approach to sustainability.
- Supply Chain. Using goods and services from more than 100,000 vendors, Starwood reports on supply chain efforts, including strengthening human rights compliance, sustainability aligned sourcing strategies, and procurement decisions.
- Associates. The force behind Global Citizenship efforts, Starwood shares how the company concentrates on opportunities for community engagement, skills training, and professional development for its Associates.
The report was compiled using the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) G4 framework as a guide and contains Standard Disclosures from the GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, including information on Starwood′s corporate governance practices.
