(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) September 19, 2011 - Telefónica S.A, one of the world's largest telecommunications companies with leading brands in Spain and Latin America (Movistar, Vivo) and northern Europe (O2), has launched its comprehensive 2010 Global CR & Sustainability Report at http://www.crandsustainability.telefonica.com/en/info/publications.php

Telefónica uses a reporting system based on three blocks to provide information on key issues to stakeholders at the global, sector and local levels. With this approach, the company’s reports follow the UN Global Compact and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and those used by business, academic and public organisations and foundations involved in corporate responsibility and sustainability.

Based on this model, Telefónica publishes a global report and reports in 17 countries. All the reports follow G3, AA1000AS and LBG standards, and are verified by independent bodies.

Through its reporting, the Company highlights its Sustainability strategy. Telefónica reveals how risk is managed by creating global policies with the aim of fostering responsible and transparent management across its operations. This includes topics such as protection of children; responsible supply chain; protection of human rights; privacy and protection of data; environmental management; and, electromagnetic fields.

The company also provides insight on how it manages opportunities linked to the impact of its services. For example, the accessibility benefits of information and communications technologies (ICT) to support the disabled or the elderly, and new green solutions to boost savings and energy efficiency, are clear market opportunities which also generate a positive impact on society.

And finally, Telefónica outlines its approach to stakeholder engagement, enabling it to jointly create new solutions together with its customers (especially public authorities) and providing opportunities to enter debates on sustainability which are being conducted in the digital world, social networks and the blogosphere.
