Republic Services of Huntington Beach Sponsors Surfing Circle of Honor, Setting Guinness World Record for Largest Paddle-Out
Republic Services of Huntington Beach partnered with Surf City and the International Surfing Museum this week to set the Guinness World Record for the largest paddle-out at the Huntington Beach pier. More than 525 local surfers participated, including local elected officials, community leaders, businesses and residents of all ages. Local Republic Services division manager, Paxton Bowman and his daughter participated in the paddle-out to become World Record holders. Surfers paddled into the Pacific and joined hands to make a large circle known as the “surfing circle of honor” to celebrate the special day and accomplishment of achieving the Guinness World Record.
The paddle-out was the brainchild of Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum Executive Director Diana Dehm, as a way to show support for surfing making it into the Olympic Summer Games for the first time in 2020. The surfers were grouped in colors – black, red, green, blue and yellow – signifying the colors of the Olympic rings. Two-time U.S. Open of Surfing champion Brett Simpson talked to the youth about what it takes to make a career of surfing before the festivities kicked off.
Republic Services was proud to support the effort as one of the first sponsors to come on board and participate in support our customers, the City of Huntington Beach, and local businesses.
