Sanofi Achieves Dow Jones Sustainability Index Listing for the Fifth Consecutive Year; One of Only Eight Pharmaceutical Companies
(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) September 22, 2011 - For the fifth year in a row, Sanofi has become a member of the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. The index assesses the world’s 2,500 largest companies from 57 different industry sectors, and companies are asked to report on their corporate social responsibility and sustainability performance. This year, Sanofi was one of only eight pharmaceutical companies selected from 56 applicants.
Attaining membership to this index is no easy task, according to John Spinnato, Vice President, North America Corporate Social Responsibility. A global network of functional and business representatives across Sanofi, including individuals from North America, assisted the CSR Excellence team in Paris in completing the questionnaire. This team provided responses to more than100 questions from a variety of areas, including strategy, finance, customer, product, governance, stakeholder engagement and human resources. Environmental and social data are also included. Companies usually have about two months to complete the electronic questionnaire, which is then reviewed by Sustainability Asset Management – the research firm that provides the Dow Jones Sustainability Index ratings. “Having been named to the DJSI Sustainability World Index for the fifth consecutive year is a significant milestone for our company,” said John. “It is a testament to our efforts within our four key areas of corporate social responsibility – Patient, People, Ethics and Planet. Each year it becomes more difficult to remain among the leaders due to competition among peers, as well as other industries. However, this achievement further demonstrates our resolve to be and remain a leader in corporate social responsibility for many years to come.” The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are the first global indices tracking the financial performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. Inclusion in the Index is seen as the gold standard by stakeholders, analysts and shareholders.
