SAP North America Recognized in The Civic 50 for Commitment to Community
NEWTOWN SQUARE, December 9, 2014 /3BL Media/ — SAP SE today announced SAP North America has been identified as one of America’s most community-minded companies in this year’s The Civic 50, an annual award that recognizes companies for their commitment to improve the quality of life in the communities where they do business.
The Civic 50 is an initiative of Points of Light, the world’s largest volunteer service organization. The survey was conducted in partnership with Bloomberg LP and evaluated companies based on several criteria. SAP was chosen for the impact of its employee volunteer programs and support for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
Volunteerism at a national and local level is at the core of SAP North America’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, practiced year-round and championed in October through the Month of Service initiative. In 2014, more than 6,500 SAP employees across North America dedicated 25,000 hours to projects that empower young entrepreneurs, bolster education and promote sustainable economic growth in underserviced areas. Through these efforts SAP employees have impacted 350,000 lives across the country.
In addition to volunteerism, SAP earned The Civic 50 distinction in part for its Business Technology Early High School (B-TECH) initiative it rolled out in early 2014. B-TECH is an early college high school where students earn a degree focused on business and enterprise technology skills. Through B-TECH, students receive academic training as well as access to mentoring, job shadowing, apprenticeships and internships. This flagship program for SAP North America CSR provides high school students with a simpler path to technology jobs. The result of a partnership between the New York City Department of Education, the City University of New York and Queensborough Community College, students receive both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree at no cost upon graduation. SAP is planning to roll out B-TECH-inspired programs to additional cities in 2015.
