SCS Global Services Wins Prestigious Sustainability Achievement Award
Acterra Award Affirms the Importance of Rigorous Sustainability Standards and Third-Party Certification
Emeryville, CA, March 24, 2016 /3BL Media/ – SCS Global Services (SCS) has been named as recipient of the Award for Sustainability, a prestigious honor bestowed to sustainability leaders in the San Francisco Bay Area. SCS is the first organization of its kind – a trailblazer in third-party certification, life-cycle impact assessment, and sustainability standards development – to be recognized in the 26-year history of the Business Environmental Awards.
The Business Environmental Awards program is administered by Acterra, a prominent Silicon Valley-based environmental non-profit. It is among the region’s oldest and most respected environmental recognition programs due to its broad geographic scope and rigorous judging process. Awards are made in four categories, with the Award for Sustainability being Acterra’s highest honor. SCS is the winner in the medium-sized company category, based on its 32-year track record of achievement.
“We are delighted to have been selected by Acterra for this special honor,” said Dr. Stanley Rhodes, SCS founder and CEO. “This award highlights the importance of ensuring that environmental market claims can be scientifically verified, and that sustainability standards drive leadership rather than simply reinforce the status quo. It also affords us an opportunity to spotlight the critical need and opportunity to reform climate accounting standards, nationally and internationally, to reflect today’s climate science and shed light on a viable path forward in this global crisis.”
SCS’ services are built on the basic premise that information is power. Businesses, institutions, and government purchasers need verified information to steer supply chains toward more sustainable approaches. Producers benefit from independent assessment, which provides feedback essential to improving operations in a way that is compatible with people, planet, and profits. And consumers have the right to know what they are buying so that purchase decisions can help guide the market toward more environmentally and socially responsible practices.
“We’d like to congratulate SCS and all of our 2016 Business Environmental Award recipients, who are breaking new ground and raising the bar for environmental sustainability,” said Adam Stern, Executive Director of Acterra. “They are setting examples for other businesses and organizations to follow.”
SCS Senior Vice President and co-founder Linda Brown added, “For three decades, we’ve been proud to work with forward-thinking companies and organizations to prevent greenwashing, and to foster true sustainable development by independently confirming practices, policies, and processes that advance environmental and social responsibility and give innovators a competitive advantage.”
