ON Semiconductor 2019 Global CCEP and CSR Conference in Seoul, Korea

In June, the ON Semiconductor Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program (CCEP) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program held a joint biennial conference in Seoul, Korea. Over a hundred attendees participated in the week-long event, reviewing regulatory and legal developments relevant to ON Semiconductor, discussing trends and innovations in the areas of compliance, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and diversity and inclusion, and exchanging best practices. 
 
Participants included Compliance and Ethics Liaisons (CELs), CSR Site Champions, representatives from Human Resources, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Security, Sales, Information Security, Procurement and the Law Department, multiple executives, and ON Semiconductor’s newest Board member, Christine Yan. Ms. Yan, a veteran business leader with more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry, joined ON Semiconductor’s Board of Directors in October 2018. Previously, Ms. Yan was the Vice President of Integration at Stanley Black & Decker, where she was responsible for integrating acquired businesses, and earlier served as the company’s President – Asia based in Shanghai, where she was responsible for its businesses in Greater China, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia. Ms. Yan hosted small group lunches during the conference week, getting to know employees from different functions across the world. One of the highlights of the conference was her keynote speech on the importance of Board oversight and engagement in the areas of diversity and inclusion, CSR and ethics and compliance.  
 
Ben Kang (General Manager for Bucheon), Jean Chong (VP and General Counsel for Asia Pacific), Don Kim (VP of HR Asia), and Yolande De Busschop (VP and General Counsel for Europe) were the executive panelists in a session moderated by Sonny Cave, General Counsel and Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer. Each panelist shared a personal example of an ethical dilemma they faced in their career and how they handled it. Among the examples given were situations emphasizing the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest, protecting confidential company information and recognizing the contributions of team members. 

Guest speaker, Hosung Joo, CSR Senior Manager at LG Electronics, also presented at the conference on LG’s CSR management practices, including its program framework, policies, risk management, responsible sourcing of raw materials, conduct social contribution reflecting business and community needs, stakeholder engagement, and a governance structure that includes board engagement. We were inspired by LG’s long-term Sustainability Commitments and alignment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as programs to promote intelligent lifestyle, realize zero carbon and circular economy, and create a better society. We appreciated the opportunity to learn about LG’s perspective and approach to CSR, and we look forward to an ongoing relationship sharing best practices on this important topic.

The conference ended with a visit to the Bucheon factory where the group toured the facilities and learned more about the impressive history of the site. 
 
At the closing of the 2019 Conference, in the spirit of ON Semiconductor’s Core Values of Respect, Integrity and Initiative, attendees volunteered through the Korea Federation of Volunteer Center by making kimchi, which was then donated to the local community. ON Semiconductor’s Bucheon site has had a long-standing relationship with this organization and our employees locally have conducted many volunteer activities such as Mother-Box for Single Mothers, Happy Bazaar, Tree Planting and other projects. 

Two hundred boxes of kimchi were made during the post-conference event by both conference participants and local employees, which was then distributed to multi-cultural families, single-parent families and seniors living alone. The kimchi-making event is a great example of our Global Corporate Giving (GCG) Program in action, which creates social value and maximizes our impact on communities.
