ON Semiconductor Foundation Awards Over $567k in Grants to 45 Organizations Globally during Spring 2020 Cycle

The ON Semiconductor Foundation is committed to serving the needs of communities through the investment of resources. Its primary focus of giving is in the areas of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Education, Health, Disaster Relief, Environment and Human Services.
Since 2016, ON Semiconductor has funded more than $5 million in grants, employee matching and in-kind donations, as well as sponsorships and dollars-for-doers for employee volunteerism.
“Investing in the communities in which we operate and where our employees live is critical to our organization as we look to continue our legacy of giving and volunteering,” said Theresa Haywood-McCarley, senior director of corporate social responsibility at ON Semiconductor and board secretary for ON Semiconductor Foundation.
The ON Semiconductor Foundation, which was launched in 2019, is overseen by an employee-based board of directors who manage its daily operations and approve recommendations from grant advisors globally.

| Adelante Mujeres |
Funds will support the Building Chicas’ Bicultural and Bilingual STEAM Identity program, which serves 600 Latina girls in grades 3-12 throughout Washington County, Oregon. The program consists of after school sessions on topics including robotics, career readiness field trips and presentations in various STEAM fields, and STEAM Camp, where workshops led by professional women provide learning and mentorship opportunities. |
| Aid For Friends | This grant will assist the Pocatello Homeless Shelter Renovation project, which aims to increase the number of people currently served nightly in the community shelter in Pocatello, Idaho. The newly renovated facility will increase the capacity to make emergency shelter available to persons who are homeless and create a livable community for all. |
| Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels | The funding will assist Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels, a charity located in Phoenix, Arizona, that strives to restore dignity and comfort to children receiving chemo treatment by providing ComfyCozy shirts upon cancer diagnosis. These shirts are designed with a diagonal zipper to ensure ease of access to just below the collarbone, where chemo ports are surgically implanted. |
| Arizona Dental Foundation |
The grant will provide funding for Arizona Dental Foundation’s coordinated charitable dental care program, Give Kids a Smile, which allows an average of 1,200 children to receive needed dental screenings, fillings, extractions and root canals. Special attention is paid to elementary children in order to prevent decay in primary (baby) teeth. |
| Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation |
This organization works to provide support to youth leaving the Arizona foster care system in order to encourage positive educational and employment outcomes. This grant will assist with their mission and help fund employment support services; interview clothing, cell phones, bus passes, computers and bikes. |
| Arizona State University Foundation | These grant monies will provide Arizona high school physics and chemistry teachers’ partial tuition scholarships for those who are re-training to become certified in physics or chemistry and/or strengthening their physics or chemistry content knowledge and their teaching effectiveness as well as prepare those participating to become qualified to teach dual enrollment physics or chemistry classes. |
| Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology (AZ StRUT) | This grant will support the AZ StRUT Mobile STEM Lab, a project that meets underserved populations at their location with a mobile technology lab, in order to provide convenient access to training sessions on basic hardware, free software and operating system options. The program engages learners throughout the Phoenix, Arizona area in a positive experience with technology use, reuse, and recycling. |
| Arizona Sustainability Alliance (AZSA) | With this assistance, AZSA plans to expand their unique Food Tech for Future program, which will effectively engage students across Maricopa county in food technology and sustainability education. Food computer models are core to this program and are an exciting way for young people to learn about sustainable agriculture through STEM. |
| Arizona Technology Council Foundation | Arizona Technology Council Foundation serves a diverse population of low-income 6-12th grade students, community members and Title 1 schools in Arizona. This grant will help to fund their Chief Science Officer (CSO) program, which enhances the workforce and employability skills of student CSOs. CSOs champion communication, interest and engagement in STEM and innovation on- and off-campus. |
| Basisschool De Keimolen | The grant will assist Basisschool De Keimolen, located in Kruishoutem, Belgium, in the development of a fully equipped STE(A)M classroom where children are engaged in a variety of technology-based classes. The educational equipment funded for the classroom includes electronic kits, Chromebook laptops, and soldering stations. |
| Boys & Girls Clubs of Scottsdale | The funding will support the establishment of a STEAM Makerspace Studio at the Boys & Girls Club Barker Branch located in South Scottsdale, Arizona. This studio will be a collaborative space where young people have the freedom to explore and learn about concepts that interest them. |
| Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation | Chengdu Giant Panda Research Center, a nonprofit organization in Chengdu, China, strives to improve conservation efforts and enhance sustainable development of giant pandas and other wild species. This grant will fund the protection and breeding of giant pandas and other endangered wildlife. |
| Chengdu Technological University Education Development Foundation |
Chengdu Technological University is a Chinese state university located in Sichuan Province. Scholarships will be granted with these funds to 25 STEM students in support of their university education. |
| Cheshire Disability Trust | These grant monies will help the charity support persons with disabilities (PWDs), ages 19-35, in Bangladore, India, through training sessions and securing employment. The Cheshire Trust strives to provide pre- and post-placement support and ensure all PWDs lead a dignified life. |
| Child Crisis Arizona | With this support, Child Crisis Arizona will continue to work to operate the only licensed emergency shelter for children, birth to 10-years, in Maricopa County, with capacity for 42 children nightly. These vital shelter services increase a child’s sense of safety and security, as well as improve the developmental health of a child. |
| Easter Seals, Arizona, Southwest Human Development | This grant will help fund the organization’s MAKERS Challenge competition in Phoenix, Arizona, where low-income, minority and female students are able to apply STEAM skills through solving real-world challenges faced by young children with disabilities. The MAKERS Challenge will focus specifically on the Internet of Things (IoT) as applied to challenges faced by real people. |
| Educare Arizona |
This grant will fund Educare’s Early Education STEM Program for high-risk children in Phoenix, Arizona, which delivers quality education focused in math and science for young children. Activities such as learning engineering concepts and creating colorful graphs will help prepare students for their entrance into school. |
| Esperança |
Esperança will use the grant monies to assist in health literacy education and chronic disease management for low-income Latino children, parents and seniors in Phoenix, Arizona. Esperança’s community health educators work to empower those they educate to make better decisions about their diet, oral health practices and physical activity in order to improve health and dental outcomes. |
| Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona | The funding will support the Free Arts’ programs serving children ages 3 to 21 years old, residing in homeless/domestic violence shelters, foster care groups homes, residential treatment centers and foster and kinship families. Participants experience a variety of art forms including visual and performing arts. |
| Furnishing Dignity | This grant will help Furnishing Dignity, located in Phoenix, Arizona, positively change the lives of over 200 families and children transitioning from homelessness and aging out of foster care by providing essential home furnishing such as mattresses. This also allows those served to create an environment of safety, security and comfort to better focus on more pressing needs such as employment and school. |
| Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest | This grant will support the Eureka! Program, which aims to engage and empower girls in STEM in grades 8th-12th, many from low-income communities across the Oregon and Washington. This program includes extensive summer programs, Monthly Learning Sessions (MLS), and internships in STEM-related fields. Topics explored include nanoscience, robotics and DNA research. |
| Greater Paradise Valley Community Assistance Team |
With the funding, this North Phoenix, Arizona based charity will buy food for the Weekend Food4Kids Backpacks program serving Title 1 School Students. The participants, who are identified as not receiving adequate nutrition on weekends, gain a greater ability to focus and engage in school as a result. |
| Gulf of Maine Research Institute | This grant will support the charity’s LabVenture experience, where 5th and 6th graders from Maine, take on the role of scientists and conduct their own hands-on research in the Cohen Center for Interactive Learning, for free. |
| Gymnázium a Střední | This grant will assist this high school, located in the Czech Republic, with educational programs on electrical engineering and electronics. These courses will include professional lectures, hand-on experiments and excursions to specialized workplaces such as ON Semiconductor’s Czech Republic location. |
| House of Refuge | These funds will support this Arizona based charities’ Adopt a Home program, which provides housing and services residing to families living on their campus. Individuals in this program gain access to support services and education to address the root causes of homelessness in their lives. |
| ICM Food & Clothing Bank | This grant will assist in food insecurity relief for the working poor, elderly, families and children nearly homeless in South Phoenix, Arizona. Food boxes as well as referral services and support for signing up for food stamps are provided to those in need. |
| Idaho Foodbank Warehouse | This grant will provide support for hunger relief in Boise, Idaho through the Idaho Foodbank Warehouse. With an influx in demand due to recent health and economic crisis, this will bring needed assistance to mobile pantries in rural communities and populations facing food insecurity. |
| Junior Achievement of Arizona (JAAZ) | This funding will support JAAZ in preparing middle and high school students to navigate the complexities of adulthood through STEM, financial literacy and career-readiness education in Phoenix, Arizona. The teacher-led curriculum includes 14 lessons in the classroom and a 4-hour simulation at their Tempe Learning Labs. |
| Leshan Special Education School | This grant will assist in supporting blind, deaf and disabled boarding school students in Leshan, China in receiving special education services. Leshan Special Education School is the only full-time boarding school in Leshan for students needing special education. |
| Military Assistance Mission | Through this Arizona based charity, ON Semiconductor’s financial contribution will provide emergency financial aid to 50 Arizona military and their families that are struggling to pay their rent, mortgage, utilities, food or insurance payments. |
| MPI De Oase | With this support, this organization in Belgium will provide education for children who live with behavioral disorders, autism-spectrum disorder, motorial disorders, and learning disorders. MPI De Oase strives to offer children all possibilities to develop into citizens with a great sense of values through personal growth. |
| North Nazarene University | This grant will fund Engineering Excellence Scholarships for students of North Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, to support academically gifted students with a high capacity to be leaders and mentors in the classroom. |
| One Small Step | The funds will support the Phoenix, Arizona based charity with the Back-to-Work program, which provides steel-toed work boots, new non-skid shoes, scrubs, interview clothing and uniforms to people who require these materials, so that they can secure a job. The assisted population includes those facing poverty, unemployment, illness and economic disadvantage. |
| One Step Beyond | This grant will assist One Step Beyond’s Culinary and Catering Training program, which teaches adults who have intellectual disabilities the basic cooking skills needed for independent living. Individuals who move into advanced training, can receive paid employment and further their culinary industry development. The Phoenix, Arizona based charity is dedicated to ensuring their life skills and recreational programs allow those involved to become participating members of their community. |
| Pocatello Community Charter School | This funding will support program costs for 7th and 8th grade students from Pocatello, Idaho to attend Teton Science School and collaborate with graduate students to investigate the scientific method through analyzing data from studies of native animals in the Teton range. In addition, this grant will assist 70, 5th and 6th grade students’ participation, in McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS), where they will practice science through hands-on exploration and experimentation. |
| SAE International | With this grant, SAE International will aim to advance STEAM education for pre-K through 8th grade students in the Phoenix, Arizona area, through conducting A World In Motion (AWIM - hands-on, inquiry-based learning experience) professional development trainings for 12-15 educators and volunteers. In addition, AWIM curriculum materials will be sources to support new program activities. |
| Save the Family Foundation of Arizona | This grant will support the Homeless Families Intervention Project (HFIP), which provides housing, case management and supportive services to help families overcome homelessness, poverty, abuse and trauma in Maricopa County, Arizona. |
| Scottsdale Museum of the West |
This grant will help fund two Sustainability Education Carts focused on themes of Water, Farming and Eco-Friendly Architecture, as well as their interactive features and three, 20-minute long thematic educational films. These carts will educate over 2,000 5th- 8th graders, nearly half from Title 1 school districts in Phoenix. |
| Senior Activity Center | With these monies, the organization located in Pocatello, Idaho will support the Senior Nutrition program, which works to help increase the nutrient intake of older individuals, as well as assists them to remain healthy and independent in their homes. This will contribute to the mental and physical wellbeing of seniors over the age of 60. |
| SOS Children’s Villages Philippines | This grant will assist this charity, located in Muntinlupa City, Philippines; in supporting a SOS family with basic needs provision, community life and psychosocial development activities, as well as health, sports and intellectual formation activities. This quality care will target Filipino children who lost or are at risk of losing parental care. |
| St. Luke’s Health Foundation | The West Treasure Valley Patient Assistance Fund reduces financial burden for patients who visit St. Luke’s in Nampa, Idaho, for healthcare and basic needs assistance. This grant will help those impacted including young mothers who are in need of newborn supplies and transportation assistance, in addition to patients facing food insecurity. |
| UK Electronics Skills Foundation | Funds will support this charity, based in the United Kingdom, in their mission to encourage more people to study electronics and to pursue engineering careers in the technology sector. A primary focus will be on engaging girls from state sector schools to participate in a 4-day residential course in Electronics at Royal Holloway University, London. |
| United Way of Greater Portland | This grant will help this Maine-based charity to support the Greater Portland COVID-19 Community Response to provide immediate relief to the most vulnerable in the midst of crisis. In addition, funding will contribute to ongoing community investment to support individuals in returning to financial stability. |
| Waste Not | Waste Not works to deliver food to those most in need by sourcing perishable food that would otherwise go to waste. This grant will support feeding children, youth and families facing food insecurity in the Phoenix, Arizona area. |
| Yanfeng Town Central School, Mabian Yi Autonomous County |
This grant will support poor students attending Yan Feng school in the small village of Mabian, China, by providing donated goods and financial assistance. |
