ON Semiconductor Foundation Awards Over $710k in Grants to 55 Organizations Globally during Fall 2020 Cycle
The ON Semiconductor Foundation is committed to serving the needs of communities through the investment of resources. Its primary focus of giving is in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education, health, disaster relief, environment and human services.
Since 2016, ON Semiconductor has funded more than $5 million in grants, employee matching and in-kind donations, as well as sponsorships and dollars-for-doers for employee volunteerism.
“Investing in the communities in which we operate and where our employees live is critical to our organization as we look to continue our legacy of giving and volunteering,” said Theresa Haywood-McCarley, senior director of corporate social responsibility at ON Semiconductor and board secretary for ON Semiconductor Foundation.
The ON Semiconductor Foundation, which was launched in 2019, is overseen by an employee-based board of directors who manage its daily operations and approve recommendations from grant advisors globally.

Funds will support The Fablab at ACCEL in Phoenix, Arizona, which provides an adaptive therapy maker’s space where families with children who have severe physical disabilities can learn to design and construct adaptive products alongside a therapist to help support their unique needs. Equipment such as 3D printers, a laser cutter and CNC router will be offered to provide creative opportunities for students. |

This grant will assist the American Heart Association in expanding its Feed-A-Family program, which aims to assist the diverse community of children and families experiencing poverty in South Phoenix, Arizona. In partnership with the Roosevelt School District, the charity aims to employ five school distribution sites, where approximately 1,080 bags of locally grown produce to help curb food insecurity is given out to ~4,320 individuals. |

The funding will assist Arizona Burn Foundation’s Client Care Services, which aims to improve the quality of life for burn survivors and their families in Arizona. High-quality programs work to offer compassionate services while promoting burn prevention as well as fire safety and advocacy training. |

This grant will provide funding for the “Using Technology to Engage and Connect Students” program, which will reach 500 teachers and 100,000 students across Arizona. This initiative brings educational technology tools and apps such as Padlet, Nearpod, Google Classroom, Pear Deck and Canvas to teachers alongside training on strategies and practices on how to best implement them in the classroom. |

With this assistance, the Banner Olive Branch Senior Center in Sun City, Arizona will be supported through funding for truck maintenance and fuel costs for six refrigeration trucks used to transport grocery items to the center’s food pantry. As a vital resource for the Olive Branch senior population, utilities for the food pantry will also be covered to help serve the elderly facing food insecurity. |

These grant monies will provide support for the Barrow Neuro-Rehabilitation and Innovation Center’s robotics technology engineering collaboration with Arizona State University, which brings together engineering students and Barrow therapists to develop rehabilitation devices for patients. These products will aim to help patients on their road to recovery from debilitating traumatic brain and spine injuries. |

This grant will support the FIRST® Robotics Competition Team #5871 - The Chickadees - sponsored by the Boise State College of Engineering in Boise, Idaho. Their mission is to engage women and younger generations in STEM through robotics. To help remove any barriers to participation, the funds will cover the team’s traveling costs for competitions as well as allow the team to purchase items to improve the competition robot. |

With this assistance, the Boys & Girls Club of the East Valley in Phoenix, Arizona plans to improve STEAM skills of youths involved in the Club through fun STEAM-related educational activities such as robotics, technology, computer programming and art projects. The Woz U Education Program will also collaborate with the Club to teach coding to students in kindergarten through high school. |

Choonie Community Welfare Center, also known as the Bucheon-dong Community Welfare Center, serves the elderly population in Bucheon-si, South Korea with aims to improve the quality of life for the elderly living alone. This grant will help to fund their services including the distribution of hearing aids containing products from ON Semiconductor, in addition to the installation of LED lights and smart care plugs in 180 households. Forming a support network program, called Silver Police, is also a primary goal to support the elderly community. |

The grant will assist Christian Life Outreach with the Mom’s Pantry project in Phoenix, Arizona, which distributes bags of food to families and individuals in need. Especially since the pandemic began, the service aims to meet increasing needs and help provide food security for those facing hardship. |

The funding will help this Phoenix, Arizona based charity to purchase security cameras that will provide safety and security for 36 domestic violence survivors and their families. Control Alt Delete connects domestic violence victims with resources in the community to provide support for basic immediate needs, home security systems, hotel accommodations and lock change assistance. |

Cortney’s Place, a nonprofit organization in Phoenix, Arizona, strives to serve disabled adults ages 18 and older through a meaningful and stimulating community-based day program. This grant will fund their Quality of Life Activities program, which helps provide an Individual Service Plan (ISP) for participants to make personal progress alongside program support. Program supplies will be purchased as well, such as exercise equipment, artwork, technology, etc. |

This funding will support Arizona's first complete health transportation system for the Homeless and underserved, an initiative led by the nonprofit organization, Elaine, located in Phoenix, Arizona. By providing underserved populations consistent access to essential locations such as grocery stores, community centers and behavioral health clinics, this service hopes to help improve the quality of life and wellbeing of participating individuals. |

These grant monies will help the charity’s Meal Packing for the Hungry program in Phoenix, Arizona. Feed My Starving Children seeks to provide food assistance to children and adults facing chronic hunger across more than 60 countries around the world. |

With this support, Florence Crittenton’s Girls Living Well program will affect 100 at-risk and disadvantaged young women, ages 10 to 18, residing in the agency’s Therapeutic Group Home (TGH). Through behavioral health therapy, medical care, education, physical fitness and enrichment activities, the participating girls are supported in their rehabilitation from addiction, homelessness, abuse and victimization. |

This grant will help fund free registration for Summer Camps at Taliesin West in 2021 for underserved students, aged seven to 17 years old, who come from Title one school districts in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. The focus of these camps include hands- STEAM oriented learning through in-person and online sessions aiming to provide science and technology enrichment for youth.

This grant will fund tuition scholarships for Friends of Saturday STEM classes and camps for underserved students in Beaverton, Oregon. By removing barriers to participation, opportunities for marginalized students will expand to engage participants in interesting topics and inspire youth to pursue STEM careers. |

Future for Kids will use these grant monies to assist engaging 1,000 children in Maricopa County, Arizona, in STEAM learning and outreach opportunities through their STEAM Lab. Future for Kids works to provide opportunities for children, ages seven to 14, who come from low-income backgrounds and have faced more than one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE). |

The funding will support the Foster360 Culver Street Housing program led by Helen’s Hope Chest in Arizona for young adults, ages 18 to 24, residing in foster or kinship homes. This impactful program will provide housing and mentorship for 10 to 15 youth who are embarking on a new period of life as self-sufficient adults through independent living. |

This grant will support Idaho State University Foundation’s Bengal STEM days, which provides workshops, competitions, and activities for 1,200 middle and high school students in Pocatello, Idaho. The funds will go towards transportation and lunch costs to ensure the accessibility and wellbeing of attending students. |

This grant will sponsor Junior Achievement (JA) BizTown, a program of Junior Achievement of Oregon & Southwest Washington, for the next three years, which blends in-class learning with a one-day economic simulation. In the classroom, upper-elementary students spend 12 hours with teacher-taught curriculum. Prominent skills acquired in JA BizTown include business ethics, career choice and interviewing, using checking and bank services, teamwork, critical thinking and problem solving. |

With the funding, this Arizona-based charity will buy food for the Meals to Grow program for students in aims to provide hunger relief and improved food security. The program will improve the emotional and physical condition of participating students, which will help school performance and overall well-being. |

This grant will support the charity’s Ambleside Center Nutrition program in Gresham, Oregon, where area residents aged 60 and older, will receive daily nutrition and food support. This nutritionally at-risk population will also be assisted though social support networks and human connection to maintain their independence. |

This grant will assist this charity, located in Meridian, Idaho, in purchasing technology items for the newly built FormLabs for unBound Technology Library. With items including a 3D printer, community members are able to prototype and create for entrepreneurship and development purposes. |

These funds will support the charity’s Camp Invention program in the Greater Phoenix community, which provides a summer STEM, creativity and innovation program for underserved children in grades K to sixth. Aiming to engage up to 135 underserved children in this opportunity, financial assistance will help bridge the gap between low-income children and their peers. |

This grant will assist in the Lower Salt River Restoration Project (LSRRP), which aims to benefit those participating in outdoor recreation activities at the Salt River in Arizona and support a healthy ecosystem. With veterans engaged as part of the dedicated restoration team, native plant communities along the 11-mile stretch of river will be restored after they were destroyed in the recent cactus fire. |

This grant will provide support the Healthy Food program in Portland, Oregon, led by the Oregon Food Bank. With an influx in demands due to recent health and economic crisis, this will bring needed assistance to families and elderly populations facing food insecurity as the charity modifies and expands their food distribution methods. |

This funding will support Parents of Plasma, an organization located in Mesa, Arizona, in Plasma Robotics’ year-round program, in partnership with FIRST® Robotics, which teaches students from five different schools about engineering and STEAM. This grant will assist in supporting students in South Portland, Maine receiving educational services through STRIVE WorldWIDE (Welcoming Independence Diversifying Education). By helping to grow the curriculum via high-quality videos to be produced and providing scholarships, students can more readily participate in engaging courses such as Brain Fitness and Social Connections Using Technology. |

Through this Oregon-based charity, ON Semiconductor Foundation’s financial contribution will provide aid to Raphael House’s emergency shelter while supporting individuals and families fleeing abuse. Holistic, trauma-informed programming and safe shelter is offered to help 100 families and children to overcome challenges. |

This grant will assist SARSEF, a Tucson, Arizona based organization, with their What Do You Wonder? program, which provides STEM education for Arizona’s underrepresented students. Engaging this population will help create Arizona’s future critical thinkers and problem solvers through science and engineering. |

With this grant, the charity will aim to provide outreach to victims of abuse in Bucheon City, South Korea, through offering psychological support and a Child Safe Guarding (CSG) day care center. In cooperation with the Bucheon Child Protection Agency, Save the Children will work with 17 institutions throughout the city to offer its Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP) services. |

| Save the Children - Philippines | This funding will support this charity in the Philippines (municipality of Villareal) with their behavior change through inclusive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program for marginalized groups, an initiative seeking to reduce malnutrition and disease risk for children under age five through improved access to basic sanitation, hygiene education and safe water. |

This grant will support the Meals of Joy program in Maricopa County, Arizona, which delivers highly nutritious, hot meals to seniors who live independently. Free of charge, 1,000 meals will be offered to help support food security and health of elderly citizens in the West Valley for up to 90 days. |

This grant will help fund the Shanghai University scholarship program in Shanghai, China for students studying electronics engineering and related majors who come from financially disadvantaged families. There will be 14 scholars who will receive an award. |

With these monies, the organization located in Shenzhen, China will provide financial support to academically outstanding students at Shenzhen University & Nanning College for Vocational Technology who come from a background of poverty. Those being awarded will be pursuing a bachelor or master degree in electronic engineering and have exceptional academic results. |

This grant will assist this charity, located in Phoenix, Arizona in supporting their STEAM robotics program. Program materials and robotics kits funded through these monies will support engagement of youth and young adults, ages 10-21, from underserved communities across the Valley. |

Located in Bangalore, India, The Akshaya Patra Foundation offers compassionate support to children through their mid-day meal program, which serves more than 1.8 million children across 16,586 schools in 40 locations in India. This grant will help to feed hot, nutritious, healthy cooked meals to 1,000 children for one year. The charity’s services work to help eradicate malnutrition, which will lead to improvements in nutritional status and school attendance for youth. |
