ON Semiconductor Helps to Make a Difference for Alzheimer's Patients

A key component of our company’s corporate social responsibility program is our community initiatives. Through philanthropy and volunteerism, we aim to create a relationship of mutual trust and respect between the company and the local communities in which we operate. Through our community involvement, we also want our employees to be proud of what they do and where they work.

One example of our involvement in the communities we serve is a recent initiative that we supported in California on October 17, 2020 with employees and their families walking virtually in the 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer's in Silicon Valley to help fund medical research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

For the third year in a row, ON Semiconductor’s California sites sponsored the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Silicon Valley, which was organized by the Alzheimer’s Association’s Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter. Employees fundraised over $4,000 and through our global giving program, we were able to match employee donations and underwrite a sponsorship for a total of over $11,000 to help further the cause and raise more awareness! Bay Area companies compete every year in the corporate challenge to see which company can raise the most funds for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. In line with previous years, ON Semiconductor finished in the top 15 in the Bay Area corporate challenge. 

The 2020 Walk slogan was, “This Year’s Walk is Everywhere,” with participants walking in their home communities. Employees participated in the event virtually, demonstrating how much our employees enjoy giving back to the local communities where they live and work. “I walked because I wanted to support my friends who have lost loved ones to this terrible disease,” said Paulette Moore, manufacturing project manager at ON Semiconductor and Silicon Valley “Walk to End Alzheimer's” co-coordinator for the ON Semiconductor team. And my grandmother, Helen, had Alzheimer’s disease so I walked to help make a difference in the lives of those living with Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer's Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. As of the last week in December 2020, the Silicon Valley Walk was the number one walk in the United States by a large margin and ended the year with just over $1.5 million raised.  

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® supports constituents facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia by providing programs to the local community through the 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900), education sessions and monthly caregiver support groups, which includes support and engagement programs for people living with dementia in the early stage.  These programs are vital steps in navigating the disease and are offered to all constituents free of charge.  Typically, programs are held in-person throughout the community, however due to the pandemic, all programs and services are being held virtually, by either phone or webinar.  Since the beginning of March, the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter served more than 12,000 local constituents through these virtual programs.
