ON Semiconductor Makes Kindness The Norm!

A key component our company’s corporate social responsibility program is our community initiatives. Through philanthropy and volunteerism, we aim to create a relationship of mutual trust and respect between the company and the local communities in which we operate. Through our community involvement, we also want our employees to be proud of what they do and where they work.

Today, we celebrate World Kindness Day, an international holiday that was formed in 1998 to promote kindness throughout the world, and it’s our opportunity to reflect on the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness. 

One example of championing this kindness in the communities we serve is a recent initiative that we supported in California on October 12th with 26 employees and their families walking to help fund medical research to find a cure for this disease for the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer's in Silicon Valley.

For the second year in a row, ON Semiconductor’s California sites sponsored this Walk, which was organized by the Alzheimer’s Association’s Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter. Employees fundraised over $14,000 and through our global corporate giving program, we were able to match employee donations as well as underwrote a sponsorship bringing the total to more than $31,000 to contribute to the cause and raise awareness!

“Our employees truly enjoyed giving back to the community, especially since we saw a 38% increase over our 2018 fundraising goals. We look forward to participating in this event next year,” said Sonya Yip, Applications Engineer at ON Semiconductor and this year’s co-coordinator of the company walk team.

This event is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Did you know that the positive effects of kindness are experienced in the brain of everyone who witnesses the act and this then improves mood and makes it significantly more likely to ‘pay it forward’? “This means that one good deed in a crowded area can create a domino effect and improve the day of dozens of people,” said Jamil Zaki, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Stanford University.
