ON Semiconductor Pauses to Honor Those Who Have Served During Military Appreciation Month
By Steven Willison, HR Manager – U.S. Operations
This year has certainly brought with it an entirely new set of challenges. But, it has also brought with it some great improvements and accomplishments. One of these accomplishments was the approval and creation of ON Semiconductor’s newest Affinity Network Group dedicated to a mission that provides service and support to veterans, military members and those that support them. The new network, Veteran and Military Employees (VME), began in March 2020, and in the few short months of its existence, it has begun reaching out to our employee veterans and others to offer assistance on a myriad of topics. In addition, it has also arranged for various activities to support local communities.
One of the most recent activities that VME members participated in was the 16th Annual Pat’s Run. Pat’s Run is an event that was created to honor the legacy of Pat Tillman, and which raises money to benefit the Tillman Scholar Program. For 15 years, Pat’s Run has been held in Tempe, Arizona, but due to the impact of the coronavirus, the 2020 race was moved to a virtual format. Many years ago, when the first Pat’s Run was held, there were 5,000 participants. Thanks in part to COVID-19 sending the race virtually, this year’s race had over 30,000 participants and raised more than one-million dollars. I’m also happy to report that some of our employees were a proud part of this event. Running in this race to honor Pat Tillman was always something I wanted to do, and, strangely enough, a pandemic helped me accomplish that goal!
As the Co-Chair of this affinity network group, I would like to add my thanks to all the members of the VME for their participation as a member and continued service to others. As some may already know, May is Military Appreciation Month – a special month dedicated to remembering the sacrifices and service of those who gave their all. This month, we also celebrated Armed Forces Day (May 16th) and Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 8th). Many thanks to those past and present who have served and especially to those who support them.
