Manon Abud, Partner, Ascentum, Inc. and Gaston Barban, Chief Information Officer and Director General, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada
Aug 31, 2010 11:00 AM ET

There is a great deal of enthusiasm in the public and private sectors for the potential of social media. Can social media ever live up to the hype?Manon Abud and Gaston Barban will share their practical insights into social media use in the public sector, from the perspective of an internal practitioner and a service provider. They’ll also focus on the role these new communications channels can play in major change initiatives.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada has an ambitious transformation agenda, and was an early adopter of social media as a key part of this process. Internal social media applications allow staff to access and contribute information on any subject, from any location, at any time. This technology has facilitated internal communication and networking. It’s also had a broader impact on the organization’s culture, substantially increasing collaboration and transparency.

This compelling example will be complemented by an exploration of how “crowdsourcing” technologies can help build engagement in times of change.
