Sodexo Supports Defense Commissary Agency in Celebrating Grand Opening of New Commissary at Fort Belvoir
Sodexo’s support of the grand opening helps draw attention to the tremendous benefits military members and families receive through on-base commissaries
GAITHERSBURG, Md., May 30, 2017 /3BL Media/ - The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) recently held a grand opening in celebration of its new commissary at Fort Belvoir in Virginia and Sodexo, world leader in providing Quality of Life services, helped DeCA celebrate the big event. Sodexo is the Deli-Bakery Services operator at the new Fort Belvoir commissary and partner to 24 DeCA commissaries throughout the east coast.
DeCA operates a global chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, saving thousands of dollars annually on purchases compared to commercial prices. These savings make commissaries one of the most significant non-monetary benefits for service members and military families and are a clear contributor in improving quality of military life.
To mark the grand opening, Sodexo hosted a variety of activities. The company provided food-themed giveaways and a decorative cake and cupcakes with special logos to commemorate Fort Belvoir, DeCA and the military.
Additionally, a Sodexo executive chef conducted live cooking demonstrations for deli-related recipes that guests can replicate at home. The company also held special grand opening promotions and deals and unveiled new digital signage in the Deli-Bakery Services area.
“As a company focused on improving the Quality of Life for service members and their families, Sodexo is proud to work with DeCA in support of their efforts to provide cost savings for those bravely serving our country and their families” said Deborah Roberts, CEO Government, Sodexo North America. “Making the Fort Belvoir grand opening an exciting special event reminds those on base of the valuable benefits available to them on a daily basis through their commissary. If the smiles on the faces of guests checking out the new facility were an indication of success, the event went very well!”
