Southern California Honda Dealers Association Support STEM Education with KIPP LA Schools
Southern California Honda Dealers Association funding offers underserved students at KIPP LA Prep access to essential technology to enhance learning
December 23, 2014 /3BL Media/ - To further its commitment to helping address the needs of the community, the Southern California Honda Dealers (SoCal Honda) has partnered with CBS EcoMedia through its EducationAd program to provide KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory School (KIPP LA Prep) students with an educational 3D printer and computers necessary to support the printer. The printer will support design, math and science programs and enhance high school and college readiness. Use of 3D printers creates an interactive learning experience for students by enabling students to engage in the true design process from concept to actualization, while reinforcing the importance of math and science in everyday life.
KIPP LA Prep is a free, open enrollment public charter school that serves nearly 500 middle school students, of which 98 percent are African American or Latino and 93 percent qualify for the federal free and reduced price meal program. The school provides a world-class academic program, including enrichment activities like music, art, sports, and mock trial. KIPP LA Prep is the highest performing middle school in the Los Angeles Unified School District for the fourth consecutive year.
“The funding from SoCal Honda will impact the entire KIPP LA Prep student population for years to come,” said Carlos Lanuza, School Leader, KIPP LA Prep. “We are most grateful to SoCal Honda and CBS EcoMedia for making this a reality for our students.”
“SoCal Honda is committed to helping the communities it serves,” said Paul Polizzotto, president and founder, CBS EcoMedia. “We thank SoCal Honda for ensuring that students at KIPP LA Prep have access to important technology that will undoubtedly help them reach their full potential."
About Southern California Honda Dealers Association
Launched in January 2007, Helpful Honda is an inspiring multi-layered program representing over 50 dealers from various cities across Southern California. A collaborative effort with the Southern California Honda Dealers Association, creative agency Secret Weapon Marketing, and media company Horizon Media, Helpful Honda serves to create a unified voice through an evergreen message: Helpfulness. Since its inception, the program has demonstrated this message in various ways, such as: providing assistance at homeless shelters with warm meals and care packages; sending Helpful tanker trucks to surprise motorists with complimentary gas; distributing reusable shopping bags at local farmers markets; scheduling umbrella escorts during rainy days; and visiting hardware stores and supermarkets to carry groceries and unload purchases for shoppers. Now residents can request help simply by tweeting #HelpMeHonda and the Guys in Blue may just show up to lend a hand.
