Connecting with Kids in Bangalore
August 7, 2010, was an unusual Saturday for a group of Herman Miller employees in Bangalore. After 10 days of collecting donations and a 30-minute drive, the team arrived at the Ashraya Orphanage. Fourteen kids greeted them, told them their names, one by one, and continued with “all the innocent things you can think of,” in the words of Chanda Gohrani. The Herman Miller team was so touched by the example of a volunteer music teacher at the orphanage, several of them signed up to teach classes every weekend. This is what we mean by community service.
