Students From Two New Jersey High School Mentored By Top Lawyers From Verizon
4th Annual Program Hosted By Verizon With Street Law To Educate Students About A Career in the Legal Field
May 10, 2013 /3BL Media/ - As part of its award-winning pro bono program, Verizon’s legal department recently hosted its fourth annual Street Law event at its Basking Ridge headquarters on April 29. Students from Franklin High School and New Brunswick High School spent the day learning about a career in the legal field from some of Verizon’s top legal professionals. Keynote speakers included Randy Milch, executive vice president and general counsel of Verizon, and Michael Mason, chief security officer of Verizon. At a workshop students received hands on experience in four legal topics – contracts, intellectual property, constitutional law and employment.
Through its partnership with the Street Law Program, Verizon volunteers serve as role models to young underprivileged students by providing career education and hands-on experiences in the legal field as well as advice and assistance with college applications.
Verizon’s pro bono program formally launched in 2009 and focuses on providing legal support in education; with domestic violence survivors; and returning military veterans. In 2012, more than 300 Verizon attorneys and legal staff participated in the program. The program was also given the Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Award.
