Supporting Children and their Families through Bereavement
ON Semiconductor employees based at the Bracknell site in the United Kingdom chose to raise money for a local charity, Daisy’s Dream, a few months ago. Daisy’s Dream supports children and young people, and their families, who have been bereaved or are living in a family where someone has a life-limiting illness.
Daisy’s Dream has a team of therapeutic practitioners who are experienced and qualified to work with children, young people, families, schools and other professionals. They offer a flexible and responsive service that responds to the unique and individual needs of each child, meeting with children to offer one-on-one support, information and advice for as long as they are needed, often a year or more. With the right support, children and young people can be helped to understand what has happened and learn to move forward in a positive way.
Daisy’s Dream was chosen by a Bracknell employee after the charity had recently provided support to a close friend and family that was affected by the diagnosis of a serious illness. May was also “Heal the Children” month so it is good to remember how important it is to help such children.
Daisy’s Dream saw an increase in demand for its services due to COVID-19 and expects this trend to continue. The Bracknell team organized a fundraising event, which raised £1,417.75 ($1,950 USD) including the employee matching contribution from the ON Semiconductor Foundation.
Daisy’s Dream acknowledged receipt of this donation and shared via a letter written by Rebecca Miller, fundraising manager at Daisy’s Dream: “We were delighted you have chosen to fundraise for us. We really do appreciate it and we are grateful for all of your efforts. It is only through support from our local communities and businesses, like ON Semiconductor, that we are able to support over 800 children and their families each year.”
David Burrows, product design manager for ON Semiconductor and global grant advisor for the ON Semiconductor Foundation said, “It was great to see the enthusiastic response from the UK team once they heard about this opportunity. Both the speed and the amount of the funds raised was significantly helped by the knowledge this was fully supported and fund-matched by the ON Semiconductor Foundation.”
