Taking a Multisector Approach to Ending the Obesity Crisis and Building a Healthier Future in America
Obesity rates have tripled in the past 30 years, a trend that means, for the first time in our history, American children are predicted to live a shorter life than the generations before them. But it’s not too late.
The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is working to end the childhood obesity crisis by making the healthy choice the easy choice for busy parents and families, and then working to increase consumer demand for those healthier options. Childhood obesity is more than a health issue. It’s an economic issue, a work productivity issue, an achievement issue and a national security issue.
PHA was founded in 2010 in conjunction with—but independent from Let’s Move!, whose honorary chair is Michelle Obama. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to improve the supply of, and generate demand for, healthier options. Most importantly, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased, third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our 225 partners are making—showing everyone what can be achieved when we all work together. Join PHA May 10-12, 2017 to Make the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice for All
PHA’s signature event, the Building a Healthier Future Summit (May 10-12, 2017), provides a unique opportunity for those in the private sector to sit with their nonprofit, academic and government counterparts to address an issue critical to the future of this country’s health and well-being. Attendees walk away with tangible, actionable solutions that will indeed help PHA to make the healthy choice the easy choice for all Americans, regardless of where they live, work or play.
