October 20 - 26, 2013
August 6, 2013 /3BL Media/ - The Taproot Foundation, a pioneer and critical architect of the pro bono field, is convening friends, partners pro bono enthusiasts, and advocates in celebrating the global Pro Bono Week campaign this October. Over the past ten years, Taproot has inspired the development of organizations in more than 10 different countries dedicated to building the pro bono ethic in their own business sectors as well as worked with over 30 Fortune 500 companies building world class pro bono programs through its Advisory Services practice.
Pro Bono Week celebrates and activates the pro bono ethic across all professions, inspiring a critical mass of pro bono activity that makes a difference. Founded by the American Bar Association, Taproot’s Pro Bono Week shines a spotlight on the outstanding work of business professionals who volunteer their professional expertise throughout the year.
In 2013, Taproot is leveraging Pro Bono Week to spread awareness and celebrate our pro bono heroes. Among the growing list of forerunners for the week are: Net Impact, which plans to host a pro bono assessment session at the 2013 Net Impact conference, NPower, planning to host pro bono tech workshops, CreateAthon which will host its signature 24-hour pro bono marketing marathon around the US and Canada, and Ashoka, who will lead a social media campaign. In addition, the Taproot Foundation will host a range of local and national activities, including a Business + Legal Pro Bono Training in partnership with Winston Strawn, LLP in five cities around the US, a Chicago Pro Bono Awards Gala and a national Pro Bono Hall of Fame Campaign. Announcement of the Pro Bono Hall of Fame Nominees and feature interviews coming soon, stay tuned!
Pro Bono Week is sponsored by Deloitte, Washington Gas and Citi Foundation. A big thank you to our partners and supporters who are helping to build the pro bono field and provide nonprofits with the critical support they need to achieve their missions.
About Taproot
Since 2001, Taproot Foundation has proven that pro bono service is a viable and reliable tool for strengthening nonprofit organizations. Today, Taproot continues to lead nationally by acting locally, and seeks to build a pro bono marketplace that, like philanthropy, is large, accessible, professional and transparent. By taking lessons learned from our award-winning Service Grant Program and applying them to our innovative new program areas, we work to stimulate the supply of pro bono resources through our corporate Advisory Services practice, as well as demand for these services by giving nonprofits the tools and training that sets them up for successful pro bono engagements. Our work has evolved to include thought leadership and international field-building, convening global leaders in the social sector to guide the design and direction of the pro bono movement while focusing on infusing a pro bono ethic into business professions, professional schools, companies and nonprofits in communities across the country and around the world. About Pro Bono Service
Pro bono--short for pro bono publico, "for the public good"—refers to professional services delivered without expectation of a fee to organizations serving the social good. It is both a form of support for community organizations as well as an increasingly core part of the ethic of business professionals from design to HR and technology, who believe that high-quality professional services are too important to only be available to those who can afford them.
