Interview with Amanda Gillespie
Amanda Gillespie is 33 years old and has been a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) educator in Ohio’s Canton City School district for seven years. She teaches middle school science and engineering classes. This fall, she is helping to launch the STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math and Medicine) Academy at Hartford Middle School — skills from the arts and medicine fields, like creating visual presentations and applying higher level scientific observations, are integrated to enhance STEM learning. Amanda is also a technology coach in the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program, a national teacher training initiative on innovatively integrating mobile technology into the classroom to boost student achievement and interest in STEM subjects.
