Team Depot and Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade Help Veteran in Need

James Holton, an Air Force veteran, has lived in Florida for decades. He was diagnosed with cancer about five years ago and had to spend months in the hospital. With medical bills piling up, home repairs fell to the wayside. The home became uninhabitable two months ago, forcing him and his family to move in with a relative.
On Friday, Feb. 18, The Home Depot Foundation and Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade teamed up to perform home repairs and landscaping for James and his family in Kendall, Florida.
Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade (RTMD) repairs and modifies homes for Miami-Dade county’s most vulnerable homeowners. Their efforts preserve affordable homeownership, fight gentrification, stabilize communities and ensure the health and safety of residents.
Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, partnered with RTMD to perform critical repairs and help James and his family return to their home. Team Depot repaired holes, painted the exterior of the house, cleaned up the property and updated the landscaping.
“You can’t even put it into words the way I feel right now. I want to just cry. I wasn’t expecting this kind of help at this time. I just appreciate it very much,” James expressed. “It’ll be a blessing to get back into my home with my whole family.”
Volunteers also installed window air conditioning units, lighting fixtures and new eaves around the house. New windows will be installed later as part of this project.
