Tetra Pak Joins Conservation International’s Business & Sustainability Council
DENTON, Texas, Feb. 24, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Tetra Pak Inc. today announced the company is joining Conservation International’s Business and Sustainability Council (BSC), a forum of like-minded companies who are collaboratively seeking the most effective way to address the pressing environmental challenges we face. BSC members include influential corporations across a range of industries, representing global revenues greater than US$ 2.2 trillion and nearly 4 million employees.
Conservation International (CI) is a leading global environmental organization dedicated to protecting nature for all life on Earth. CI is 900 people in 30+ countries helping to build a healthier, more prosperous and more productive planet for everyone. Last year, CI launched the Nature Is Speaking campaign to draw attention to nature's urgent message that nature doesn't need people, people need nature.
“It is a privilege for us to join forces with Conservation International and address the issue of natural resource scarcity, something we believe can have a negative impact on the ongoing health and biodiversity of our planet as well as the stability of business enterprises,” said Elisabeth Comere, Director of Environment at Tetra Pak Inc., who added that Tetra Pak’s membership in the BSC also signals the company’s commitment in the area of renewable resources and climate mitigation.
Under the membership, CI and Tetra Pak will generate meaningful programs and new content designed to help industry and others better understand the value and benefits associated with improved resource management practices, including research to examine the connection between use of renewable materials and climate mitigation. The two organizations will also convene cross-sector industry dialogues to explore best practices and challenges of early adopters who use renewable materials in their packaging and products.
"At Conservation International, we believe that valuing, protecting and managing natural capital must be embedded in a company’s DNA—and that business can be a positive force for conservation," said Sonal Pandya Dalal, Director, Business & Sustainability Council. "The BSC is designed to help corporate sustainability leaders deliver tangible benefits and advance their environmental and social agenda. We’re thrilled to have Tetra Pak working with us on innovative tools and solutions to protect the planet that provides for us."
Last year Tetra Pak launched the Moving To The Front initiative focusing on the importance of material sourcing to protect natural resources and encouraging suppliers, manufacturers, brand owners, NGOs and others to expand focus from the mid and end of the packaging life cycle to the beginning.
