Tetra Tech Helps Build Resilience Through GALS Training
Strengthening food value chain in developing communities through training women and youth
Tetra Tech provides integrated solutions to increase food security and rural incomes, while promoting sustainable intensification, climate change adaptation, and equitable value chain governance. Our approach integrates gender, youth, and vulnerable populations in all our activities to achieve broad-based and inclusive economic growth.
Tetra Tech is applying a nutrition-sensitive value chain and market systems development approach to strengthen the foundation for durable peace in South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Feed the Future DRC Strengthening Value Chain (SVC) Activity is engaging youth at the local and community levels through Gender Action Learning System (GALS) training. After implementing the GALS methodology, which consists of workshops focused on gender equality and family relationships, for almost two years in the DRC, the SVC team has seen transformative results, including new economic initiatives for women and youth, improved money management skills, healthier lifestyle choices, and decreased domestic violence.
