Tetra Tech Releases Its 2018 Sustainability Report Card
Leading with Science® to create a more resilient and sustainable world
Tetra Tech released its 2018 Sustainability Report Card on Earth Day, April 22, 2019. Our report card shares how we are Leading with Science® to achieve a more sustainable and resilient world. Featuring an introduction from Tetra Tech CEO Dan Batrack, the report card covers the company’s sustainable practices and highlights how Tetra Tech incorporates the latest innovations and technologies throughout its projects and operations. We continually review our processes and practices to look for ways to enhance sustainability. With more than 18,000 employees in more than 400 offices around the world, we recognize the impact we have on the environment and our communities.
Our Sustainability Report Card highlights innovative strategies and technologies from the 64,000 projects we worked on in 2018. These projects demonstrate innovations in water, energy, and environmental management; resilient infrastructure design; promotion of resilient societies; and use of technology to support sustainability. The report card also covers the improvements and efforts our offices make around the world to operate as sustainably as possible. We have reduced our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 55 percent—surpassing our 2020 goal—and advanced 18 of the 27 metrics we track.
Our commitment to sustainability extends into the community, where our associates support international, national, and local charities through fundraising, volunteering, and donating in-kind materials. The report card features examples from the hundreds of activities our employees completed to help improve the lives of the people and the environment in communities around the world.
In 2018 Tetra Tech’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Program reached nearly 6,600 people, and we surpassed our five-year goal of reaching 20,000 people. Our annual Bike to Work Week Challenge during May had a 20 percent increase in employee participation, contributing to an estimated 11.8 metric tons in avoided CO2 emissions.
To advance its commitment to sustainability, in 2018 Tetra Tech joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, which supports the UN’s efforts to end extreme poverty, fight inequality, and address climate change. As part of this movement, we are integrating the UN Global Compact principles into our strategy, culture, and daily operations, while working on projects that advance resilience and the UN’s development goals. We have noted in the report card where our projects align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the report card serves as our Communication on Progress.
In addition to our environmental commitments, we updated many of our social and governance initiatives, including our diversity and inclusion efforts. Tetra Tech believes that when our employees reflect the diversity of the communities in which we work, the company gains a better understanding of our clients’ needs.
We are pleased to support sustainability measures across our organization and will continue to adopt innovative approaches as we work towards our 2020 sustainability goals.
