Tetra Tech Wins the EBJ Technology Merit Award for USAID Oceans Project

The Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) honored Tetra Tech with multiple Business Achievement Awards for 2019. Among the awards granted to Tetra Tech, was the Technology Merit Award for our work with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on its Oceans and Fisheries Partnership (Oceans).

Tetra Tech is using technology in Southeast Asia as part of the USAID Oceans project to help reduce illegal fishing and improve sustainability. For this project, we developed the electronic Catch Documentation and Traceability (eCDT) system to track every step of the seafood supply chain from bait to plate. The eCDT system uses a combination of GPS, Quick Response (QR) codes, and mobile phone technology to document seafood to ensure it was legally caught.

Through this technology, USAID Oceans project has traced more than 2,000 metric tons of fish and improved the management of more than 100 million hectares of Southeast Asian marine ecosystems. Additionally, USAID Oceans trained women to implement traceability systems, helping to bridge the gender gap in a traditionally male-dominated industry and improve livelihoods for women.
