Timberland Employees Give Back in Communities Across the U.S.

Campaign: Timberland’s Overall CSR Commitment

In celebration of Timberland’s first annual Earth Week in April 2016, employees participated in The Dumpster Dive, one in a series of activities to drive awareness and eco-conscious behavior among employees. Volunteers sorted through 13 trash bags from the dumpster and assigned their contents to piles of recyclable waste, compostable waste, reusable waste and trash bound for the landfill.

Timberland celebrated its annual Earth Day in spring with environmental community service projects around the world. In its own backyard of Stratham, NH., a group of volunteers spent their day of service conducting revitalization projects at the Stratham Hill Park.

In summer, Timberland employees geared up for a day of volunteerism on the water in kayaks and paddle boards. The volunteers paddled along the coast of the Great Bay collecting debris that can be damaging to the waterway.

In June, the Timberland sales team and friends revitalized a playground at Camp Gundalow in Greenland, NH by painting the inside and outside of various buildings, completing a number of construction projects including building picnic tables, participating in outdoor games and providing crafts for kids of the YMCA camp.

As a part of Timberland’s annual licensing summit meeting, employees and business partners volunteered at the Carriage Barn in Kensington, NH, which supports individuals of all ages with disabilities by enhancing their physical, psychological, cognitive and emotional healing and strengthening through equine activities. Volunteers had a full day of building stables, fencing and cleaning riding equipment used in equine assisted therapy programs.

To complete the work of its first commitment to create and restore urban green spaces in five cities over the next five years, Timberland, with the help of local nonprofit GrowNYC, returned to the United We Stand Garden in the Bronx on Thursday, September 8, in New York. Volunteers spent the day restoring the space and celebrating the official opening to the community. The event also commemorated 9/11, something Timberland has done every year since 2001 when employees were volunteering at a Bronx elementary school when tragedy struck. Timberland president, Jim Pisani, lent a hand to local residents planting a flower bed at the edge of the garden.

In September Timberland hosted its largest Shoe-Fit and Footprint Fair yet, where volunteers visited the Seabrook Elementary School in New Hampshire to provide 725 students with Timberland boots. The team also put on a Green Learning Station where the kids were educated on sustainability and environmental footprint.

Timberland employees chose to volunteer their time for the at risk youth at The Chase Home for Children, which provides supportive and restorative residential and family services in a safe and nurturing environment. This is just one of the 50 planned service events around the globe that kicked off the Serv-a-palooza season in September.

In this series of photos, dedicated Timberland volunteers in Portsmouth, NH spent hours in preparation and building of a shed for The Cross Roads House. These volunteers chose to dedicate their time to a cause that provides secure, transitional shelter and a proven program that helps residents move with dignity and purpose to stable and decent housing.

Above all, Timberland serves to support a commitment and passion for environmental and social justice. Timberland employees work hard to make products responsibly, protect the outdoors, and to serve the communities around the globe where they live, work and explore.
