Time Warner Cable’s EncuentroSTEM Program Receives 2015 BizBash Event Style Award
On October 27th, 2015, winners of the 2015 BizBash Event Style Awards were announced at BizBash Live: The Expo New York at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Honoring the best ideas, strategies, products, and venues in North America and beyond, the awards were given to entries that demonstrated innovation, quality of execution, effectiveness, and an influential impact on the event and meeting industry.
Time Warner Cable’s EncuentroSTEM program was selected as the 2015 BizBash Event Style Award for Best Sustainability/Corporate Social Responsibility Program for an Event or Meeting.
To address an ongoing social need, Time Warner Cable, in partnership with Ovation, chose to focus on a unique approach of educating and inspiring middle school youth from low-income, heavily Latino areas of Los Angeles to pursue education and careers in the arts and its connection to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
To help enhance the perception of STEM as “cool” actor Wilmer Valderrama hosted a Webcast entitled “EncuentroSTEM,” which attracted a worldwide audience, featuring leading professional artists from the Los Angeles Theater Center who each explained their live theater craft —including sound design, lighting, set building, and costume design—as well as all the STEM-enabled career opportunities in this artistic space.
